DLA Piper is pleased to announce that Sami Rintala has joined the firm's Intellectual Property and Technology (IPT) practice as a partner based in Helsinki, Finland. Sami advises clients on a broad range of matters in the information and computer technology (ICT) space, such as complex commercial contracts, technology transactions and outsourcing, as well as on data protection.

Sami joins DLA Piper from a Finnish law firm, where he became a partner in 2016. He works across a range of industry sectors, including insurance, financial services, travel, media and retail. He has a strong background in the technology sector with extensive in-house experience as former legal director at Nokia Corporation, where his responsibilities covered legal support for ICT and indirect sourcing.

Sami is a recommended lawyer within TMT in the Legal 500 and Chamber & Partners where he is described as a “very strong negotiator” with “excellent business understanding”. Clients recognise his “procurement expertise” and “in-depth knowledge of technology transactions” and appreciate that he is “focused on protecting the client’s interests”.

Matti Ylä-Mononen, DLA Piper's Country Managing Partner in Finland, said: "We are one of the fastest growing law firms in Finland and we are delighted to welcome Sami to our team. His depth of expertise in ICT outsourcing arrangements and digital transformation projects adds significant weight to our capabilities in Finland and in the Nordic region. Sami is highly regarded by clients and colleagues, and I am confident that he will play a valuable role in further developing our IPT service offering and help our clients successfully meet their business objectives. Technology is one of our core sectors and a key enabler for growth amongst our clients in the Finnish and Nordic markets."

Sandra Wallace, Joint Managing Director, UK and Europe, said: “We have seen some strong results in the Nordics following a significant investment over the last few years. Sami's hire will help our office in Finland continue to grow, as well as opening up opportunities both regionally and internationally for the firm.”

Sami Rintala commented: "I am excited to join DLA Piper and contribute to the firm’s continuing growth. The firm's IPT practice is well known both internationally and in Finland, and I am looking forward to working with colleagues around the globe to provide our clients with the insight, skills and tools they need wherever they do business.”
