DLA Piper strengthens Competition practice in Finland
DLA Piper has appointed Laura Kauppila (LL.M., M.Sc.) as Senior Associate as of 10 August 2021. Laura joined the firm from the Finnish Competition and Consumer Authority (FCCA) where she worked as a senior adviser in the merger team. Laura has several years of experience from competition law, especially from handling the most complex merger control related matters, as well as, from international cooperation with the European Competition Network (ECN). Laura has also lectured on merger control at the University of Turku.

Over the past few years, DLA Piper has grown significantly in Finland, particularly in the areas of mergers and acquisition, which has also increased the number of merger control related matters handled by the firm’s competition lawyers. The competition law landscape keeps evolving, and various changes have been implemented to the Finnish Competition Act recently – the latest being changes made due to the so-called ECN+ Directive. Also, the FCCA published recently an assessment that suggested changes to the Competition Act which would likely lead to increase in mergers which need to be notified to the FCCA.
