DLA Piper advises Mehiläinen on strategic acquisition of 9Lives Kotipalvelut Oy
DLA Piper has advised Mehiläinen, a leading Finnish private provider of social and healthcare services, on its acquisition of 9Lives Kotipalvelut Oy from the 9Lives Group. This acquisition significantly strengthens Mehiläinen’s home care service portfolio, extending its reach and capabilities across Finland.
Mehiläinen Group is a leading private provider of social and healthcare services in Finland and internationally. With 115 years of experience, Mehiläinen is a fast-growing pioneer in its field, focusing on digitalization and high-quality, effective care. The company serves 2.2 million customers annually through 890 locations and employs over 37,000 professionals. Internationally, Mehiläinen operates in Sweden, Estonia, Germany, and Lithuania, and provides digital health solutions via its subsidiary BeeHealthy.
9Lives Kotipalvelut Oy is a well-established provider of essential home care services, including elderly care, personal assistance, and respiratory paralysis treatment. With approximately 1,400 skilled professionals, the company currently operates in 13 wellbeing services counties throughout Finland. The transaction does not include 9Lives’ ambulance operations and remains subject to customary closing conditions, including regulatory approvals.
This acquisition represents a strategic step for Mehiläinen in responding to the growing demand for high-quality in-home care services, driven by Finland’s ageing population. With this integration, Mehiläinen is poised to expand its service availability to new regions and to enhance the continuity, quality, and accessibility of care delivered at home.
“We are proud to support Mehiläinen in this important acquisition, which underscores their continued commitment to strengthening home care services in Finland,” said Ilkka Liljeroos, the advisory team lead at DLA Piper. “Our team is pleased to have played a role in advancing this strategic initiative that aligns with broader societal and demographic trends.”
The transaction is expected to close during 2025 following competition authority clearance.
The DLA Piper advisory team consisted of Ilkka Liljeroos, Essi Lavikkala, Satu-Anneli Kauranen, Tetti Kunnas, Riikka Autio, Ina Törrönen, Josefine Jahnsson, Josetta Saari and Lilia Lamri.
