DLA Piper advises Mehiläinen on the acquisition of Humana’s elderly care business in Finland
DLA Piper has advised Mehiläinen on the acquisition of 21 elderly care units in Finland from Humana Group (listed on Nasdaq Stockholm).
The units covered by the acquisition are located all over Finland, most of them in Northern Finland, and have a total of ca. 500 residents. The transaction also includes two sites providing home care services. As a result of the acquisition, the nursing homes for the elderly will become part of Mehiläinen's Mainiokodit, the homes for mentally disabled elderly will become part of Mehiläinen's Ykköskodit and the home care units will become part of Mehiläinen's home care services.
Mehiläinen Group is an established private provider of social and health care services, offering high-quality, comprehensive services in Finland and internationally. Mehiläinen is 114 years old and is a rapidly developing and growing trendsetter in its field. The company invests in digitalisation opportunities and the effectiveness and quality of care in all its business areas. Mehiläinen serves 2.1 million customers annually in 840 locations staffed by more than 37 000 employees and professionals. Mehiläinen offers health services in Finland, Sweden, Germany and Estonia, and digital healthcare software solutions through its subsidiary BeeHealthy.
In Finland, the population is ageing rapidly and the need for care services will increase. With the addition of Humana's units, Mehiläinen's network will expand, and the company will be able to offer services over a wider area, drawing on the expertise of both companies and sharing best practices.
The completion of the transaction is subject to the approval of the Finnish Competition and Consumer Authority.
